Some are dark. But their beauty astounds me.

Pagan Poetry 3 : Licht und Liebe

One major opera star of the 70's and the 80's, with a voice still considered as an abnormality is the incomparable Edda Moser.
Combining a real talent in acting and a striking voice of power and great extent, she graved in stones roles as Die Königin der Nacht, and other mozart heroins.
Since we're living in a state of blues recently we dug up this lovely Lied written by gay Schubert and sung by Hermann Prey and Edda.

ENGLISH TRANSLATION (by Kathy Wolfe):
Love is a sweet light
As the Earth yearns for the sun
And for each bright star
In the wide blue faraway
So yearns the heart for the joy of Love
For it is a sweet light.

See how high, in silent celebration
Far over there, bright stars sparkle!
From the earth they flee, [from] that dark
Confusion-filled, troubled veil.
Woe is me, how troubled
I feel, deep in my soul,
Which in joy once bloomed;
Now made desolate, without Love.

Love is a sweet light
As the Earth yearns for the sun
And for each bright star
In the wide blue faraway
So yearns the heart for the joy of Love:
Love is a sweet light.

GERMAN LYRICS:
Liebe ist ein süßes Licht.
Wie die Erde strebt zur Sonne
Und zu jenen hellen Sternen
In den weiten blauen Fernen,
Strebt das Herz nach Liebeswonne;
Denn sie ist ein süßes Licht.

Sieh, wie hoch in stiller Feier
Droben helle Sterne funkeln:
Von der Erde fliehn die dunkeln,
Schwermutsvollen trüben Schleier.
Wehe mir, wie so trübe
Fühl' ich tief mich im Gemüte,
Das in Freuden sonst erblüte,
Nun vereinsamt, ohne Liebe.

Liebe ist ein süßes Licht.
Wie die Erde strebt zur Sonne
Und zu jenen hellen Sternen
In den weiten blauen Fernen,
Strebt das Herz nach Liebeswonne:
Liebe ist ein süßes Licht.

Melanie & Tennessee

We went to the theater last night, it had been so long since the last time ! A nice surprise was to see that it was played in this old theater in Montmartre where We had seen the mesmerizing Charlotte Rampling play Strindberg's "Dance of death".
So ! Yesterday "Baby doll" it was, and even though we had doubts about Mélanie Thierry considering her hasardous start in films, we have to say that on stage she's every bit of a grand actress. The tone, the moves, everything was there to make us think she was 19 years old. The rest of the cast was just as gifted, an obsessed and miserable husband, a sexy and raw sicilian neighbor searching for the truth behind the fire that destroyed all his machines.

We had a wonderful time.

Need Modjo - urgent !

we're currently like that :

when we should be having that :

...we're having a real modjoless week, no motivation for sports at all, ditched cuong nhu for the entire week, we won't be going tomorrow morning either. We'll go to tai-jitsu class tonight and that's it.
we did go on a date however, with a dashy young fellow from south of the country. Lean and probably a bit mean, went to law school after all, but that seems to be our type.

who knows ? we don't.

We're expecting a buch of marvelous old movies with Liz Taylor, Montgomery Clift and Vincent Price and one with Delphine. Hope we get them before sunday though we doubt that. We did finish the book about the Von Bülow case, very interesting story but poorly written clearly some lawyers should just stick with procedure and avoid any litterary hope.

anyhow, just one afternoon to go, 2 hours of sport and we're safe back at home...

Where have all the flowers gone ?

It is soon Mother's day here... We're planning daffodils and a chic accessory. You only have one mum (usually) so you'd better spoil her. We do.
